Postgame Report: BOS (-333) Winner

The first pick of the season was a winner but it was a sweat.  Boston got out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the fifth on a home run from Rafael Devers.  I thought it would be enough with Crochet cruising through five.  Crochet would nail down the sixth and exit after 96 pitches having only allowed four hits, striking out seven.  Another solid start from the Boston ace.

Greg Weissert entered in the bottom half of the seventh, a walk to Joshua Palacios and a base hit from Chase Meidroth brought the tying run to the plate.  Luis Robert smacked an 0-1 sweeper over the left wall and the White Sox evened the score at three apiece.

Weissert would get out of the seventh and it was Cam Booser for the White Sox in the eighth.  Booser has been one of the White Sox better bullpen arms relying on a four seamer that sits 98 MPH and a sweeper.  He threw five straight sweepers to Rafael Devers, worked the count to 2-2 and struck him out on a high fast ball that registered 98 MPH.  Booser looks good in lefty lefty situations.

In the ninth, Boston's closer Aroldis Chapman had to work around a lead off double from rookie Edgar Quero who went 2-4 and had a nice day both at the plate and behind the dish as the White Sox starting catcher.  Chapman got a break when Joshua Palacios popped out trying to bunt Quero to third.  I like the call from Veneable there, Palacios has to get that bunt down.  Brooks Baldwin struck out and it was Chase Meidroth, the former Boston Red Sox prospect, at the plate for the White Sox with the winning run in scoring position.  Dramatic stuff really, Meidroth having come over to the White Sox in the Garrett Crochet trade this past winter.  Chapman still has his gas though and coaxed the rookie into a fly out to left field on a 101MPH sinker.  It was a tense spot and this game had a bunch of those at bats that put you as a fan on the edge of your seat.

Boston got the win 4-3 on a two out base hit in the bottom of the tenth from Triston Casas.  He nailed one off the Green Monster and was greeted by the Red Sox team at first base in a walk-off celebration.  Boston has won four in a row.

It was a great game to follow here in April, and also a winning ticket in the Pickstreak game.
